An explosion from a gas cylinder has resulted in the loss of at least eight lives during a wedding celebration in Pakistan, including the newlywed couple. The tragic incident occurred at a residence in Islamabad, causing a section of the building to collapse and leaving seven others injured, as confirmed by local authorities.
The blast took place in a residential area within the city center, prompting an immediate investigation by the police to determine the cause. Deputy Commissioner General Sahibzada Yousaf reported that the rescue operation has concluded with no individuals trapped under the debris, aided by the use of sniffer dogs to locate all victims.
Yousaf mentioned that three houses were completely destroyed, one partially damaged, and nearby structures are being inspected to prevent further hazards. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed sorrow over the fatalities and offered condolences to the bereaved families, instructing health officials to provide the best care for the injured and initiating a thorough inquiry. Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also expressed heartfelt sympathies to the victims’ relatives.
In Pakistan, many households utilize liquefied petroleum gas cylinders due to inadequate natural gas pressure, leading to gas leaks and tragic accidents. Authorities continue their investigations into the incident to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the explosion.
