A tragic incident unfolded on a busy south London street when a man in his 30s lost his life in a collision involving a police vehicle, as confirmed by emergency services today.
The fatal accident took place around 12.35am on South London road, resulting in the closure of a portion of Borough High Street until 9am and affecting bus routes. Despite immediate assistance from the London Ambulance Service and the police, the man succumbed to his injuries.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has taken over the investigation. According to a Metropolitan Police spokesperson, a marked police vehicle was responding to an emergency call when it collided with the pedestrian.
Authorities notified the deceased’s family, offering them support through specialized officers while maintaining cordons at the scene. Standard protocols have been followed, with the incident reported to the appropriate bodies for further review.
The London Ambulance Service responded promptly to the scene, dispatching various medical resources, including a trauma team, but unfortunately, they could not save the victim’s life.
