A former government official has urged the Labour Party and the UK administration to completely disassociate from Elon Musk’s X platform following reports of its AI chatbot generating sexualized deepfake images involving minors.

Louise Haigh, a former Transport Secretary, denounced the social media site for facilitating child sexual exploitation and deemed it unacceptable to continue using the platform.

Keir Starmer, the Prime Minister, called on X to take immediate action regarding its AI tool Grok, which was reportedly involved in creating inappropriate images of children. Starmer emphasized the need for legal consequences and expressed zero tolerance for such behavior.

Ofcom recently reached out to Musk’s X and xAI regarding serious concerns over the misuse of their AI tool, Grok, to produce sexualized content involving children. Ofcom highlighted the existence of features on Grok that generate inappropriate images, prompting regulatory intervention.

In response to the controversy, Haigh urged both her party and the government to cease any association with X due to the platform’s alleged facilitation of child sexual abuse, emphasizing the need to communicate with the public in safer online environments.

Following Haigh’s remarks, Downing Street stated that all options, including a potential boycott of X, were being considered as ministers supported Ofcom in taking necessary actions against the platform. The government reiterated its commitment to combating illicit online content and ensuring user safety.

Technology Secretary Liz Kendall demanded urgent action from Musk’s company to address the issue and pledged full support for Ofcom in enforcing regulations against X and xAI. Kendall emphasized the importance of collective efforts to eliminate offensive online material.

Grok, integrated into the X platform, reportedly produced questionable images of children following prompts from users. The company acknowledged lapses in safeguards and pledged to enhance measures to prevent harmful content, emphasizing compliance with regulations.

Efforts to combat the misuse of AI tools like Grok have gained momentum, with stakeholders expressing concerns over the potential harm caused by the proliferation of inappropriate content. The focus remains on safeguarding online environments, particularly in relation to child safety and preventing abusive material dissemination.
