A man was discovered dead on the roadside, having been brutally attacked by his own pet dog during a walk. The 33-year-old was found lifeless in a ditch in Lohne, Germany, with his American Bulldog beside him, unwilling to leave even when medical help arrived. A postmortem examination revealed injuries consistent with a dog attack, leading authorities to suspect that the man’s own dog caused his death.

The American Bulldog, now under custody at an animal shelter, hindered emergency responders from assisting the man. Dog expert Vanessa Bokr suggested that the dog may have attacked its owner after being restrained from pursuing something, escalating into a tragic outcome.

American Bulldogs, a distinct breed older than the banned XL Bully in the UK, have been associated with fatal incidents in various regions, including recent cases in the US and Europe. In a separate incident, a toddler in the US was fatally attacked by an American Bulldog in his grandmother’s backyard. The child sustained fatal injuries after entering the dog pen and unfortunately passed away despite immediate medical attention.

Similarly, in the UK, a baby required urgent surgery after being bitten in the face by the family’s American Bulldog. South Yorkshire Police reported the incident in Doncaster, where the one-year-old suffered severe facial injuries due to the dog’s aggression, prompting further evaluation in a kennel.

Investigations are ongoing in all these cases involving the American Bulldog breed.
