Frankie Dettori concluded his illustrious racing career on a high note by clinching victory in Brazil’s Triple Crown opener. Initially intending to retire at Ascot’s Champions Day in October 2023, Dettori had a change of heart and extended his career in the United States.
The 55-year-old officially announced last November that he would bid farewell to racing at the Breeders’ Cup in Del Mar, followed by a final tour in South America culminating at Rio de Janeiro’s Gavea racecourse. During his last races, he triumphed aboard Speak Alpha and Bet You Can in the Brazilian 2,000 Guineas, the Grande Premio Estado do Rio De Janeiro, allowing him to execute his signature flying dismount celebration one last time.
Reflecting on his remarkable achievement, Dettori expressed his surprise at winning a Group 1 race on his retirement day, describing the experience as emotional and unforgettable. Despite closing the chapter on his jockey career, he emphasized his continued involvement in the racing world.
Moving forward, Dettori has embraced a role as a global ambassador for Amo Racing under Kia Joorabchian, marking the transition from his final British Group 1 win with King Of Steel at the Champion Stakes.
In a heartfelt message to his fans on social media, Dettori conveyed his deep appreciation for the sport that has been his life’s passion since his teenage years in Italy. He acknowledged the invaluable support of his family, the camaraderie shared with fellow riders and industry members, and the unwavering dedication of his fans who have been a constant source of encouragement throughout his extraordinary journey.
As he bids farewell to the sport that has defined his life, Dettori expressed gratitude for the opportunity to live out his childhood dream and thanked everyone who contributed to his remarkable career.
