Dolly Parton’s journey from humble beginnings to success has not only inspired her music but also led to the creation of a theme park, podcast, and now a Broadway musical set to debut later this year. Titled “Dolly: A True Original Musical,” the show promises to narrate Dolly’s unique life story through her own words and the songs that have defined her experiences.

An announcement video by the 80-year-old Parton assures that the musical will authentically portray her life experiences, emphasizing the focus on her roots, losses, loves, and personal growth rather than just superficial glitz and glamour. The production will feature a mix of new songs created for the show alongside some of Dolly’s iconic hits like “I Will Always Love You,” “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” and “9 to 5.”

Scheduled to kick off in New York City on December 7, the performances are slated to run until November 21, 2027. Parton expressed her excitement, calling this endeavor a realization of a lifelong dream. With a musical career spanning nearly seven decades, she is a prolific songwriter with over 3,000 compositions, having sold more than 100 million albums globally and earned inductions into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Country Music Hall of Fame.

The musical made its debut last summer in Nashville at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, enjoying a sold-out six-week run. Director Bartlett Sher commented on the profound impact Dolly has on audiences, noting the joy and inspiration she brings to people’s lives. The show aims to provide an unfiltered glimpse into Parton’s life, going beyond the glitz and glamour associated with her image.

Tickets for the show will be available for purchase starting Friday, July 10, through the official website.
