John Tory, the former mayor of Toronto, has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). In a recent statement, Tory expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with TIFF’s board, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the wider community to influence the organization’s future direction. His tenure officially commences on October 1 as outlined in a news release issued on Thursday, coinciding with this year’s festival scheduled to run from September 10 to 20.
Tory takes over the position from Jeffrey Remedios, who held the chair role since 2021. In his farewell remarks, Remedios commended TIFF and its leadership, reflecting on his significant contribution to the festival’s evolution.
Moreover, TIFF unveiled the addition of three new members to its board of directors, namely Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch Echevarría. Concurrently, Asha Daniere, a board member for nine years, will be stepping down. TIFF expressed its deep gratitude for Daniere’s longstanding commitment and valuable contributions to the organization.
