Ghislaine Maxwell, a convicted teenage sex trafficker, is set to testify before a US congressional committee next month. Maxwell, a British ex-socialite and associate of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, who is currently serving a 20-year prison term for sex trafficking, will exercise her right to remain silent during her virtual appearance in front of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on February 9.

The committee’s chairman, James Comer, confirmed that Maxwell’s legal team has indicated she will invoke the Fifth Amendment to avoid self-incrimination. Despite the mounting pressure from Democrats to charge Maxwell and US Attorney General Pam Bondi with contempt of Congress due to delays in releasing Epstein-related documents, Comer emphasized the necessity of hearing from Maxwell, stating that efforts have been made to depose her.

Maxwell’s attorney has affirmed her willingness to comply with the subpoena but intends to maintain silence once present. The lawyer expressed that proceeding under these circumstances would be futile, serving only as a political spectacle and a waste of taxpayer funds, with no valuable information to be gained.

There is a possibility that the 64-year-old Maxwell may change her stance and disregard the subpoena altogether. Despite being initially served the subpoena in July 2025 for an appearance the following month, the committee has declined to grant her immunity in exchange for her testimony.

During the meeting, Comer also announced the scheduled deposition and the advancement of contempt of Congress resolutions against Bill and Hillary Clinton for their non-compliance with subpoenas related to their connections with Epstein. The Clintons have contested the subpoenas, arguing their lack of legislative relevance, while engaging in negotiations with Comer behind the scenes.

The Oversight Committee’s investigation focuses on Epstein’s network and the government’s management of case-related records. Criticism towards the US Justice Department has escalated due to incomplete disclosure of Epstein-related documents, with only a fraction of the mandated documents being made public.

In October, Maxwell appealed her conviction to the US Supreme Court, which declined to review her case. Representative Robert Garcia, the ranking Democratic committee member, accused the Justice Department of favoring Maxwell with special treatment for defying the subpoena for months.

The ongoing situation has sparked controversy, with calls to end any cover-up and ensure transparency in the proceedings involving Maxwell and the Clintons regarding their association with Epstein.
