Search and rescue authorities have located a plane in the Kawartha Lakes area where a pilot went missing after a recent flight. The Trenton Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC), responsible for coordinating search and rescue operations in Ontario, announced on social media platform X that a plane was discovered on Wolf Lake in Queen Elizabeth II Provincial Park, located approximately a 45-minute drive north of Kawartha Lakes municipality.
The case has been transferred to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) as a missing person’s case, according to the JRCC’s social media post. However, the post did not confirm if the plane belonged to the missing 73-year-old pilot named David.
Durham police mentioned in a social media post on X that David departed from Oshawa Airport in the plane at 8:30 a.m. on Friday and was scheduled to return by 9:30 a.m. Authorities also noted that David typically flies in the region south of Kawartha Lakes township and north of Lake Scugog.
The Ontario Provincial Police had previously described the aircraft as a small blue homemade plane with the tail marked “FOFZ.” David is characterized as an experienced pilot, standing at five feet seven inches tall with a slender physique, black grey hair, and a moustache.
