A neurologist has revealed a quick practice that may help stave off cognitive decline in just six minutes. Dr. Clint Steele, an expert in brain health, assists individuals in improving brain function and warding off diseases like dementia.

The 56-year-old specialist recommends spending six minutes daily reading as a way to lower the risk of dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and other cognitive conditions. Referring to long-term research, he highlights that enhancing “cognitive reserve” through activities like reading can aid in preventing or mitigating the onset of dementia and related illnesses.

Dr. Steele advises boosting cognitive function by adopting new skills such as learning a foreign language, dancing, or reading for at least six minutes each day. “Devoting six minutes to reading can actually decrease the chances of developing dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease, and more,” Dr. Steele shared with What’s The Jam.

According to him, reading contributes to building cognitive reserve, which is crucial for the brain’s adaptability in handling stress effectively. Dr. Steele, practicing in Maine and Florida, has dedicated over three decades to promoting brain health and preventing dementia.

His informative TikTok video has garnered numerous likes and comments. A platform user shared, “I read around 100 books annually, attend dance classes, acrobatics, and clogging for six years. At 84, I am still active, albeit slower. Since my mother had Alzheimer’s, I understand the importance of staying engaged.” Another user mentioned, “I make it a point to read the news daily,” while a third added, “Engaging in fine art is also beneficial, which explains why many seniors take up painting.”
