Team GB is aiming for a record-breaking performance at the upcoming Milano Cortina Winter Olympics. UK Sport projects a medal haul of four to eight at the event in northern Italy, surpassing the previous achievements at Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018 where Team GB secured five medals, including one gold. The team’s performance leaders are setting even higher expectations for the upcoming games.

The optimism surrounding Team GB stems from the impressive lineup of athletes heading to Italy, including world champions, X Games gold medalists, and World Cup podium finishers. The recent 2024/25 season saw British winter athletes claim nine World Championship medals across various sports.

British skiers and snowboarders have excelled in Olympic events, earning 28 major podium finishes, three Crystal Globes (World Cup titles), and a World Championship title courtesy of Zoe Atkin. Team GB’s preparations have been described as meticulous by Chef de mission Eve Muirhead, emphasizing the focus on creating ideal conditions for peak performance when it matters most.

The bar is set high for Team GB in disciplines like men’s skeleton, curling teams, skiing, and snowboarding. Mirror Sport highlights the top contenders from Team GB expected to secure medals in Italy.

Double men’s skeleton world champion Weston has dominated the World Cup circuit, claiming three consecutive titles and leading this season’s rankings. Muir, a two-time World Cup gold medalist, has shown prowess in slopestyle and big air events. Brookes, the youngest ever snowboarding world champion, is a strong contender for medals. Atkin, the current halfpipe world champion, has been consistent on the World Cup circuit with multiple podium finishes.

Bankes, a world champion and Crystal Globe winner, is set to lead the mixed curling team alongside Huw Nightingale. The ice skating duo, Fear and Gibson, are poised to potentially secure Britain’s first Olympic figure skating medal in decades. British curlers, led by Bruce Mouat, are looking to build on their silver medal from 2022 at the upcoming Winter Olympics.

The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics will take place from February 6-22, with fans able to enjoy over 850 hours of live action on discovery+ via Prime Video. The discovery+ Entertainment subscription will offer access to TNT Sports 2 for 24/7 Olympic coverage throughout the games.
